The Papillon Dog Club of South Australia
The Papillon (Butterfly – erect ear) – The Phalene (Moth – drop ear) This petite, dainty breed, with paintings depicting this breed as early as 1477, has its origins in Belgium and France. These dogs were regularly featured in paintings, and indeed, Marie Antionette kept a papillon. The papillon, highly regarded as an intelligent breed, excels in obedience, agility, assistance dog and companionship. With its single, silk coat, it is an attractive dog with an easily maintained coat needing grooming with a regular shampoo and brush, with no trimming required apart from an occasional trim of the feet. The papillon loves company and couch time, and makes an alert watch dog. The Papillon Club of South Australia held its first official meeting in February, 2017, and has since become an active, supportive club, with an emphasis on social outings for the dogs and owners to enjoy as well as an annual Championship Show.
